Nail Yakupov: Coming Home is a documentary on Oilers 1st overall pick Nail Yakupov’s return “home” to Sarnia from his new home in Russia playing in the KHL.

Steve “Dangle” Glynn (me) and fellow Nations contributor Andrey Osadchenko drove to Sarnia to watch Yakupov in action and have two in-depth interviews with him. We also sat down and spoke to Yakupov’s good friend and former teammate Alex Galchenyuk, the Montreal Canadiens’ covetted 2012 3rd overall pick.

KHL Highlights: Yakupov scores 2, Malkin with 3 assists, sick goals, and a Riga-SKA game that was great start to finish

That time I interviewed Jordan Eberle with a bagel

I’ve made about 1,000 YouTube videos talking about hockey, but I still have a lot of stories and little things I’ve never really shared with you guys. Since there’s a lockout (again), here is one of those stories. It’s really long, so here’s your chance to tap out early.

It’s May 2009. I’m in my third year of university. I had just completed my first and only full season as the writer for RBC Junior Hockey Magazine, a nationally syndicated junior hockey radio show hosted by TSN’sGino Reda. Other people who have held this position in the past include TSN’s Jermain FranklinKen Rodney, and Matt Cade, Sportsnet 590′s David AlterEric Smith, and Dave Cadeau, the Score’s Rob Pizzo, and a few other recognizable names. And lil’ ol’ me. I was 20-years-old for most of the season, meaning I was the same age as many of the guests we had on the show. I was one of the younger writers they’d ever had. Not only did I write the scripts for the show, but I also gathered soundbites and quotes from junior hockey players, coaches, GMs, etc. The show was on once a week and we usually had a minimum of two “News and Notes” soundbites, as well as a feature interview. After doing that show for about eight months, I had a lot of numbers in my phone.

One of those numbers was Jordan Eberle’s.

Can you tell me another funny story about meeting players? I'm "sick"..

I was on the phone with Jordan Eberle for this junior hockey radio show I used to intern for and was interviewing him about his 100th WHL goal. I got to pre-record interviews for the show as the producer, or “writer” as I was called, so I was recording an interview with him. Keep in mind this is several months after he scored that epic goal against Russia and won gold.

I’m paraphrasing but this is pretty much the conversation we had:

Me: “So Jordan. You scored a pretty big goal this week with your 100th. Have you scored any other big goals this year.

Eberle: “Umm…well I scored a winner earlier in the season I think. And umm

Me: “Jordan…”

Eberle: “Yes.”

Me: “Russia.”

Eberle: “Oh yeah hahaha sorry.”

"Whoa WTF did we do to deserve that, Cory Schneider?" - Oilers fans

“You saw Darcy Hordichuk and Ben Eager in Edmonton. Nobody cares about Edmonton, so nobody hates them. It’s that simple.” - Cory Schneider

Unbelievable.

Unbelievable.
